Retail or Warehouse Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers for the Fort William branch based in Claggan Industrial Estate. We require volunteers who can either help us, in our retail shop or within the warehouse. Retail shop volunteers would be looking at helping with sorting, pricing, displaying and selling donated items as well as serving customers.

Warehouse are looking for help with the sorting and preparing and organising of furniture and goods which are donated.

Lochaber Foodbank – Storeperson

To check stock coming in and rotate, to make up food parcels, and to keep the place clean.

West Highland Museum – Museum Volunteer

A volunteer’s role here involves providing a warm welcome and basic information to museum visitors at reception and handling small shop sales.

There are also some light cleaning duties and opening up and closing the museum.

Hours: A half day per week. We are open Monday to Saturday 10 am – 4 pm at the moment and shift times are 9:45 am – 1 pm or 1 pm – 4:15 pm.

We move to our summer opening hours in May, 10 am – 5 pm. Shifts 9:45 am – 1:30 pm or 1:30 pm – 5:15 pm.

There may also be opportunities to help out with some of our office based tasks.

We are especially needing help on Tuesday mornings, Thursday afternoons, Friday mornings, Friday afternoons and Saturdays.

Lochaber Geopark Association – Volunteer at our Visitor Centre

Welcoming visitors to Lochaber Geopark at our Visitor Centre (55A High Street, Fort William) by manning the information desk and till. You will have a member of the Board or staff member in the office at hand to help you. You will become part of a volunteer team that promotes the geology of the local area, as well as the local area and business, and local crafters.

The Centre is open 10 am – 4 pm Monday to Friday and volunteers usually man the Centre for 3 hours in the morning or afternoon (10 am – 1 pm / 1 pm – 4 pm)

Cash Desk Volunteer

Do you always have a welcoming smile on your face and love getting into conversations? Why not get to know the people from your community with this versatile volunteering role. Gain valuable experience in customer service adding value to your CV.

You’ll be at the heart of the BHF’s fight against heart disease. You will be serving customers, helping to promote our stock and awareness campaigns and encouraging every donor to become part of our Gift Aid Scheme. If you want to get to know the community around you this is a perfect way to integrate yourself into your local area and maybe spread the volunteering bug to new recruits.

Telephone/Admin Volunteer

Are you calm, collected and happy to chat on the phone?  We’re always looking for friendly, confident and helpful people to join our team and become the voice of your local shop. You will be the first point of contact for our customers, helping them with any enquiries and arranging collections for donations.

Come and be a part of your local team and learn customer service skills and gain experience. If you have good communication skills and are able to follow administration processes accurately, then come and be a part of our team and laugh and chat with other volunteers over a cup of tea and a biscuit. Book Volunteer

In our shops we’re always looking for enthusiastic people to help price, organise and display our wide range of books. Strike up conversations with fellow book lovers and blow their minds with simple facts about lifesaving heart research – it’s where the science fiction meets real life.

Create exciting and eye catching displays and inspire others to pick up a book and spread the bookworm craze. Music & Entertainment Volunteer

Stock Generation Volunteer

Do you walk down the street and say hello to everyone you meet? Are you a familiar and friendly face around town? Or are you looking to integrate yourself into the local community? We’re always looking for confident, chatty and driven volunteers to generate great quality stock. You will help to build maintain friendly relationships with existing and new business contracts, arranging local collections for your local shop and talking to local businesses about surplus stock.

This is a great role for those who love a challenge and the chance to use their existing skills. Ideal for those who are looking for a role to give them work experience where they can practise their transferable skills.

Become a part of our stock campaigns and get your local community involved in our stock events. All the stock people generated by volunteers like you help us provide funding for over half of the UK’s independent research into heart and circulatory disease.

Department Volunteer

While there are opportunities across a range of roles in our shops, you may prefer to volunteer in one of our departments. We’re always looking for people who would enjoy giving great customer service and keeping their department looking great. You may have an interest in homewares, books or music department. Whichever you chooses, you’ll get the chance to mingle with the local customers and volunteers, and integrate yourself into the BHF community.

Online Listings Volunteer

We’ve got dedicated eBay resources to help and assist you with this unique volunteering role. Research the interesting items; package them in your eBay boxes and send them off to be sold at our eBay HQ. Every week, we’ll send updates about the most unusual and exciting finds we’ve managed to sell through our stores. Will your find be the next eBay headliner?

Volunteer Recruiter

Volunteers are essential to our success and we are looking for people who love to help us recruit more volunteers to help us raise funds in our shops for our lifesaving research. We need volunteers who are chatty, friendly and willing to follow our volunteering guidelines to help us recruit more like minded people.

This role will see you get involved in your local community. face to face and online. You will spend time making contacts within the local colleges, volunteer centre and job centre, letting them know about our work and our opportunities. You will place adverts online and find out about the volunteer recruitment opportunities where you live.

Volunteer Stock Collection Driver

Do you love driving around and keeping yourself busy? If you’re an active and bubbly person looking for a flexible role that gets you out and about meeting people and exploring your local surrounding, then come and join our friendly team.

In this role you will collect stock from people’s houses, businesses or our clothing banks and deliver them to your local shop. You would need to be physically fit and active for this role due to the lifting and carrying of donation bags in and out of the vehicle.

It’s good to note it is your responsibility to ensure that you have a full, valid driving license and that your car is correctly insured for carrying out collections of BHF donations. Volunteers will use own vehicle and will be reimbursed at the HMRC rate (currently 45p per mile).
